A glimpse under the hood: the ceaseless activity of my mind.

Music Seeker

Recently I’ve downloaded two albums from iTunes: Ra’s Duality and TV on the Radio’s Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes. I have been burned out on my 70 days worth of iPod tunes for months. I hate to admit this...70 days worth of music and I’m sick of all of it.

I’ll listen to almost anything. I have all genres of music dating back to the 1940s. I really want something creative and smart: excellent music and well-thought lyrics. Please offer suggestions.

How about "Scatterbrain" by Radiohead or for something completely different (and instrumental) "Mississipi-Mali Blues" by Taj Mahal & Toumani Diabate?

Baka Beyond are really good, you could try the track "Journey Between" they are kind of african, dance and irish folk all rolled into one. if you like reggae Dub side of the Moon by Easy Star all Stars is well worth a listen - think pink floyd dub style - my favourite is "Money"

There are lots of posts about music including playlists that include everything from Pink Floyd to Rock too Dance to world on my blog which you can find here

Ra is awesome, especially the "Duality" album.

I've recently found a group called "Powderfinger" and their album "Vulture Street" is very good.

Perhaps, my suggestion won't provide you with introspective or smart lyrics - but amusing ones!

If you like old-timey music, take a listen to Tampa Red or the Mississippi Sheiks. They have great, dirty lyrics that are funny to hear and not in your face.

There is this great band in this city but I don't know if they have a disc out. You'll be able to find them on myspace though. They're called The Shanghai Triad. They are this jazz band that plays 30s/40s jazz but with Asian instrumentation. They dress the part, looking stunning, and they sound great.
